Prescription Policies

Renewals
Seattle Urological Associates policy does not allow physicians to continue prescriptions without an annual reexamination. If your records indicate that it has been at least 12 months since your last office visit we will request a visit before renewing the medications.  In some cases we will allow the pharmacy to provide you enough medications until your appointment.  We will not give samples in lieu of a visit and prescription renewal.

If you need a prescription refilled and you have not been seen in 12 months,  please call to schedule a follow-up appointment at your earliest convenience so that you may continue your current medication or consider alternatives.

This is considered standard medical policy and is for your safety.

If you have been seen within the year and you'd like a prescription renewal call and ask for a medical assistant.

You must provide the following so have it ready when you call.  Most of the information can be obtained on the medication bottle that is being renewed.  Have your reading glasses ready!!

Your full name and date of birth  (lots of similar names)
The phone number of the pharmacy to be called
The name of the medication and the dosage  (for example  Flomax 0.4 mg)
    The number of pills requested
How we can reach you if we have questions or the pharmacy requires your phone number

Narcotic Renewals
The only physician that can renew a narcotic prescription or any 'controlled' drug is your treating physician.  If the evening, holiday, or weekend covering physician does not have personal knowledge of your case and need for narcotics, no renewals will be made by telephone.  You will need to be seen in the Emergency Room by the Emergency Room physicians to receive additional medications.

If you are using a narcotic prescription and you believe that you will not have enough to last through a weekend or holiday, you must contact your treating physician during business hours, Monday through Friday.  If your treating physician has signed out or left for the weekend, it will be up to the discretion of the doctor on call, during regular business hours, with your chart in hand, to make any renewals.
