Pre Op-Procedure Instructions for Green Light Laser
Ø Notify your physician's office if you come down with a fever, cold, or
infection or if you develop another medical problem.
Ø Notify your physician's office of any blood thinning medications you may be
taking. Some common blood thinners include: Aspirin, Coumadin, Plavix, and
Vitamin E. Unless otherwise recommended by your physician, blood-thinning
medications should be stopped 7 days prior to your procedure.
Ø Check with your doctor's office to see if you should continue to take your
regularly prescribed medications on the day of the procedure.
Ø Take any antibiotics as prescribed by your physician.
Ø Do not eat or drink for eight hours prior to your procedure. This includes
solid foods, water and other liquids, gum, lozenges, or anything else that is
not a prescribed medication. If you need to take a medication you may take it
with a small sip of water. Please note that failure to follow the food
guidelines will result in your procedure being rescheduled.
Ø Dress comfortably in loose-fitting clothing and leave jewelry at home.
Ø Bring a list of your prescription and over the counter medications.
Ø Check in two hours early. Your procedure will last for 1 ½ to 2 hours and it
will take about the same amount of time for the anesthesia to wear off.
Ø You must have a ride home from the hospital. You cannot drive or operate heavy
equipment for at least 48 hours after your procedure. You may elect to take a
taxi home from the hospital but only if someone goes with you. Please contact
the hospital's pre-admission department at 206-386-2997 for any questions
regarding these guidelines
