Dr. Gottesman attended the University of California at Berkeley and then
graduated from the University of California, San Francisco Medical School (UCSF) in 1970
with honors and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. He did his general
surgical training at UCSF and then completed a residency in Urology at UCLA under Drs.
Joseph Kaufman and Willard Goodwin. His research during residency was primarily on urinary
diversion techniques.
In 1978, after two years on the faculty at Rush Medical School in Chicago, he moved to
Seattle, Washington, and began practice at Swedish Hospital Medical Center.
He is Clinical Professor of Urology at the University of Washington and has authored
or co-authored more
than 67 papers and 5 book chapters. He is past Chief of the Department of Urology at
Swedish Hospital.
He has been selected by the physicians of King County as one
of region's 'Top Doctors' in the October, 2000, August, 2003, August, 2004 and
July, 2006, September, 2006, issues of Seattle and Seattle Metropolitan Magazine,
and in the Fall 2003 issue of Puget Sound Consumers' Checkbook..
Dr. Gottesman has had an active interest in the treatment of all genitourinary malignancies,
(kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate and testes) and was a Prinicipal Investigator for the
National Prostate Cancer Prevention study and multiple investigational drug studies.
Starting July 1, 2007, Dr. Gottesman will be limiting his practice to
outpatient vasectomies at Vasectomy
Center Eastside (www.vasectomycenter.com).
Vasectomy Center Eastside is not affiliated with Seattle Urological Associates
Dr. Gottesman has two patents on urological devices and has written many medical
educational software programs, including the original program of Dialog Medical, called DISCussion.
He has been happily married to his wife, Gloria, for 40 years and has three married
children and seven grandchildren. He loves computers and golf.
